There were SIX deer playing in the back yard today.

I rarely see them play. They usually just raid the bird feeders and stroll on to the next yard, but the two youngsters were clearly troublemakers. They chased each other around like puppies and annoyed the does until they retaliated. All of a sudden they all froze facing the same direction.

A coyote? Dogs are rarely loose around here. But coyotes aren't much of a threat to the deer until the young are born. Maybe a neighbor cam out to see what the ruckus was.

After a minute or two they all fled, leaping over my bushes and sending the snow flying.

My beautiful blanket of snow has been torn up like I had hosted a football game.

lol, at least you got to see something you rarely see in the young deer playing, that to me would be worth the torn up snow.

oh it was! well worth it! :)

I was just surprised at all muss.

Usually, they just walk single file on the thin game trails in my yard. ALL the animals use these tracks - raccoons, opossums, squirrels, even the cats.

And I scold the cats, telling them they OWN the place; they can walk where they please.

lol That's too cute about the cats using the game trail.

How very cool!

They do chase each other like puppies.

I was too enchanted to even pick up my camera.

What a coincidence - I looked out my kitchen window yesterday and saw three deer in my next door neighbor's front yard, lol!
