*sigh* just put my girlfriend on a homebound train.
I now take a vow of silence for 24 hours. Gotta give my vocal chords a chance at recovery.
The train people amazed me. The train 'station' was just a little unmanned platform. No stationmaster and no signs telling people what side of the tracks to wait on. So Jyll called Amtrak to try to find out. She was on the phone for quite a little while, but didn't get a definitive answer.
Then a train going the wrong way STOPPED. The engineer stuck his head out his little high window and ASKED IF WE WERE THE FOLKS WANTING TO KNOW WHERE TO STAND to get on the outbound train to St Louis. He told us what we needed to know and went on his way.
O.o Apparently the staff person Jyll had been talking to had relayed the question to a passing train, who took care of it. THAT's customer service.
When I was growing up, I was one of those kids waving at passing trains, trying to get the engineer to blow the whistle. Never expected to have one stop and talk!
