I'm in Seattle visiting Jane.
The plane was on time, the flight was smooth, and no luggage was lost. It was the worst plane flight of my life.
We were seated in row 31, right next to the engine.** It was earsplitting. Painfully, unrelentingly earsplitting. After an hour, I begged the flight attendant for big, muffling ear phones. She was sympathetic and told me how she had permanent ear damage from that noise. But ... she had no earphones. She suggested that I fashion ear plugs from Kleenex.
So I spent the next three hours with tufts of Kleenex sprouting from my ears. O.o
I made frequent trips to the bathroom to escape the din, only emerging when someone pounded on the door.
To add insult to injury, the seat behind me was occupied by ... Con Funk. An immense lad in an arcane tshirt, unshaven and stinking to high heaven. I swear he must have just left a 9 day Gaming Convention, not having washed since his mom made him shower before he left home.
I got off the plane 9 hours ago. My left ear is still ringing and sore.
** I have sat next to the engine before. It was DECIBELS quieter than this.
